Today, August 12, is International Youth Day and Youth Day in Ukraine!
This holiday is a recognition of the important role of the young generation in shaping the future of the country. It also symbolizes the energy, creativity and potential of young people who strive for change and development.
Until 2022 – Youth Day was celebrated in Ukraine on the last Sunday of June. Such a day was established by the presidential decree of June 22, 1994. Such a time of celebration had its roots in the Soviet tradition.
After the Russian aggression in 2014 and with the desire to integrate into the European family in Ukraine, the question of moving the holiday to another date arose.
Therefore, on July 28, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, taking into account the initiative of youth movements and organizations of Ukraine, signed Decree No. 333/2021 on the postponement of Youth Day to another date.
In 2024, the holiday falls on August 12.
So, as part of the celebration of this Day, students of the Faculty of Construction and Transport were recognized and awarded within the walls of SNAU.
In particular, the Diploma of People’s Deputy was awarded to the 3rd year student of the “BCI” specialty – Sidash Stanislav Viktorovych.
Fedyrko Serhiy, the student dean of FBT, was awarded for “social activities, fruitful performance of duties as a student dean, striving for the development of the university community.”
Student Darya Ivashchuk was awarded for “public activity, desire for the development of the university community and significant contribution in the field of volunteerism”
Andriy Logvinenko, a student, was awarded for “an active life position, significant contribution to the organization of extracurricular activities of the faculty.”

As part of the agreement on academic mobility concluded with the Poltava State Agrarian University, in the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year, an academic exchange took place at the “Master’s” level at the OPP “Construction and Civil Engineering” between Sumy NAU and Poltava State University. On the part of the Faculty of Construction and Transport, Artem Grinka and Trifonov Kostyantyn, students of the 1st year of the OPP “Construction and Civil Engineering”, will participate in the exchange.
As part of the exchange, the students completed the course “Management of enterprises of construction structures, products and materials” and received the following learning results, which were confirmed by excellent grades:
RN 5. Apply modern mathematical methods to analyze statistical data, calculate and optimize design parameters and technological processes in the construction industry.
RN 6. Apply regulatory provisions, organize the implementation of work on standardization, metrological support of measuring equipment and equipment.
RN 11. Collect the necessary information using scientific and technical literature, databases and other sources, analyze and evaluate it.
From June 23 to 26, 2024, at the Faculty of Construction and Transport, the defense of the qualification papers of the Bachelor’s degree holders in the specialty 192 “Construction and Civil Engineering” took place.
The protected qualification works had a variety of topics: from new construction projects to projects related to the capital repair of buildings that were damaged during the hostilities that took place in the Sumy region. Bachelors demonstrated acquired theoretical and practical knowledge and skills. Students who did not have the opportunity to be present at the defense were joined by means of a zoom conference with identification and a corresponding demonstration of the presentation of their qualification work. The protection process was recorded by video recording. Among them were students who are now defending our country from the aggressor. Thanks to them, the educational process was not interrupted during the war and all students can continue to receive the chosen educational level. We are grateful to them for this opportunity and are waiting for them in the walls of our faculty to conduct training at the Master’s degree. We congratulate all applicants on their successful defense and wish them the realization of their projects and developments, which will help restore the buildings and structures of our region.
THE RANKS OF CIVIL ENGINEER SPECIALISTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED!
On June 27, 2024, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transport held a public defense of the final qualification papers of students of the RVO “Bachelor” specialty 191 “Architecture and Urban Planning”. In their works, student architects presented actual innovative project solutions, which are mainly aimed at the development and development of the Sumy region. Thus, the projects of rehabilitation centers for the military, sanatoriums and recreational and rest complexes, veterinary clinics with shelters for animals, hotel and restaurant and residential complexes, office, shopping and business centers were presented. Protection was combined with compliance with all security measures both offline and online for students who are currently abroad. We would like to thank the members of the examination commission, in particular the chairman and director of Crocus Engineering LLC, Bohdan Lashcha, for his objective assessment and sound professional advice to future architectural specialists. We sincerely congratulate the applicants with a successful defense and wish them creative inspiration and success in their further studies and professional activities!
On June 7, 2024, the Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU) hosted a large-scale event – Sustainable Energy Day “EnergySmart Hackathon: Decarbonized Solutions 2024”. The organizers were the Department of Finance, Economy and Investments of Sumy City Council and the Energy Innovation Hub of SNAU.
Objectives of the event:
Raising awareness among the public, businesses and local governments about the importance of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between different participants in the energy sector.
Influence the formulation and implementation of policies that support sustainable energy use at the local, national and international levels.
The program consisted of 2 parts:

Part II: “Hackathon of Energy Innovations: Youth Shapes the Future”, the participants were students of the Sumy Vocational College of Construction and Architecture, as well as
Ihor Lepyoshkin (GIZ Ukraine), advisor of the project “Promotion of energy efficiency and
implementation of the EU Directive on energy efficiency in Ukraine”, who welcomed the participants and talked about the future development of the participants’ projects
Dmytro Borodai, Doctor of Arch. the head of the Department of Architecture and Engineering Research (SNAU) presented the global practice of energy-efficient architecture to the participants
Oleksandr Novitskyi, Ph.D., energy auditor, head of the Department of Construction and Operation of Buildings, Roads and Transport Facilities told the participants about the Energy and Innovation Hub of SNAU.
The participants had the opportunity to see in practice the work with TESTO equipment for energy audits, in particular, the testo 835-H1 pyrometer with humidity module, the testo 440dP multifunctional device with sensors and probes, as well as the testo 915i and testo 115i thermometers. Work with the Fluke Tis 20 thermal imager was also demonstrated
Students were shown equipment for energy audit. In particular, the Dji Mavic 3T industrial quadrocopter drone in the Enterprise configuration with a digital and thermal imaging camera. The drone is used to inspect hard-to-reach places, including roofs and high-rise structures. The thermal imaging camera provides the ability to perform thermal imaging of buildings and engineering networks to record thermal failures of building structures in places where it is not possible to carry out such work with a manual thermal imager.
The students were also shown the equipment and operation of the hybrid-type solar power plant located at the Engineering and Technology Faculty.
The event was a great opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge, present innovative solutions and communicate with energy sector experts.
Also during the event, the awarding ceremony of the winners of the “Green roof mock-up” competitions was held, “Renewable energy is the key to sustainable energy development!” and “MORE CREATIVITY, MORE ENERGY, MORE STEPS TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY.”
